Amber grew up in upstate New York, near the Finger Lakes, before moving to Princeton, New Jersey, at the age of 11. At 18, she attended George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia, where she studied psychology. During this time, her father was diagnosed with cancer and passed away, but he had the joy of attending Amber’s first wedding and knowing her youngest child’s father.
In 2008, Amber was blessed with the opportunity to join her future husband, Scott Montgomery, in Rappahannock County. Amber, like so many of us, fell in love with not only the views and county peace, but the pace of life and people of Rappahannock. Amber says, Rapp County is a slice of heaven on earth. She was also blessed with three stepchildren, all of whom have grown up and graduated from Rappahannock. Her youngest daughter, although not attending school in Rappahannock, has been a part of the life of this county since she was barely two years old and has been forever shaped by the values that our great county and its people exemplify.
Amber’s professional journey began at the Main Street Child Development Center in Fairfax, where she gained invaluable experience working with a nonprofit and serving children in need for six years. She then transitioned to the Prince William County School system in 2005, where she served nearly 30,000 students and their families as an Executive Administrative Assistant for nearly two decades. While working, Amber completed her undergraduate degree in Psychology and earned a Master of Science degree in Psychology with a concentration in Industrial/Organizational Psychology.
After earning her master’s degree, she became a certified human resource professional through the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM-CP). In 2024, Amber had the honor of joining the board of directors for the Mental Health Association of Fauquier County, proudly serving as their Rappahannock connection.
Amber strives to lead the Headwaters Foundation by example with gratitude, love, and a heart full of servitude. She’s thrilled to embark on this new journey, dedicated to serving the children of the community she cherishes.
A note from Amber: Please reach out anytime to share your thoughts, ideas, and feelings about Headwaters. I’m eager to listen, and together we can help build a bright future for our Rappahannock children. Let’s make a lasting impact on the community we love!
